HANDS PERCUSSION SDN BHD
Its thirteen states, grouped together in a federation, form one of the most complex countries on a geographical level, as if the creator, exhausted from making the world, had let slip with his fingers the last pieces of land sown south of the China Sea. This finding probably helps to explain the extreme complexity of a country where everything is mixed and combined: races, colors, cultures and languages. Without this preventing him from living in relative serenity.
The federation of Malaysia has been under the sign of the red hibiscus, symbol of its unity. It includes, among others, the states of the Malacca peninsula and those of the island of Borneo. Open on the Indian Ocean, land of Islam covered with Buddhist temples or Hinduism or Christians, it is living one of the most extraordinary adventure of cohabitation and mixing. Still influenced by the British style of the former colonizers, the Malaysians keep their sultans but wear the kilt, give themselves Arab names but go to pray in the temple. They are as attentive to the samurai of Japanese trade as to the pinches of Chinese grocers. Both are attracted by the wealth of a federation where a modern state is being built step by step.
Hands Percussion SDN BHD is a renowned Malaysian percussion ensemble, whose creation in 1997 was an event on the performing arts scene in Kuala Lumpur so its performances are innovative.
Hands Percussion SDN BHD’s performances are highly regarded and admired, as they strive to preserve a cultural heritage while introducing new dimensions to theatrical percussion, Venturing into contemporary percussion music and exploring the music and instruments of different cultures. The ensemble has produced and performed on numerous occasions in the arts scene as well as at corporate events.
The show drew its inspiration and repertoire from the incredible diversity of islands and customs that make up Malaysia. His program flies over all the percussion of all the states of the federation. It combines the culture of the mountain tribes, who live in the lush forest where the spirits of the deceased rest, as well as the dances and music of the villages that share between rice, tea and sea.
Since the 15th century, Malaysia has seen sailors and prophets pass by. From the tin roofs of Malacca, the country’s oldest port, to the temple of ten thousand Buddhas on the island of Penang, the show tells in thousands of years and minute gestures, in the flight of fine silks like wings of butterflies, the whole story of one of the most mixed parts of the world.
Every wave of the hands, every tap on the drums, every bow of the bodies, every step slid, brings us closer to the luxuriance beauty of a nature where the red of hibiscus flowers bursts. A perfect symbol of beauty and unity for a country with delicate and enchanting charm.
