KTF RADHA SARISHA
The Republic of Indonesia is the largest archipelago state. It is located between the peninsula of Southeast Asia and Australia, at the meeting point between the Indian and Pacific oceans. It is composed of more than 17,000 islands, including about 6,000 inhabited ones, of very diverse size and nature and distributed around the equator, giving this country a tropical climate.
The largest islands are Java, Sumatra, Borneo, West New Guinea and Celebes. Java, a mountainous and volcanic island, is not the largest island but it occupies a central place in the archipelago. The most populous island with one hundred and twenty million inhabitants, more than half of the country’s population, one finds there most of the large cities including Jakarta, the capital, from which originates the group "KTF Radha Sarisha". The group is the official ballet of the university of social and political sciences of this city.
While in Bali the gamelan was for centuries dedicated to cults and temples, in Java it was reserved for royal courts. Even today, court gamelan ensembles receive a designation, such as "Yogyakarta" meaning "the venerable invitation to beauty". There are four royal courts in Java preserving the tradition of the gamelans who accompany the sacred dances 'bedaya semang' and 'ketawang'.
The folk ensemble "KTF Radha Sarisha" from Jakarta has a gamelan composed of eight musicians with a variety of typical instruments such as metallophones, xylophones, drums and gongs. To this one were added bamboo flutes and singers.
Dancing in Indonesia, like most performing arts of the Orient, is like a form of religious worship. Today, with the modern influences of dances, old traditions and drama are still preserved in art academies and directed dance schools.
One will find in the show of this folk ensemble all the diversity of Indonesian popular arts as well as the richness of magnificent traditional costumes. The masked dances punctuate a most astonishing show that leads you towards the precious and refined Orient. The folk ensemble "KTF Radha Sarisha" will make you dream thanks to the dances of the Orient islands.
