Dance in Mexico is the result of several processes of miscegenation from the conquest to our modern era. It is recognized worldwide as synonymous with magnificence and splendor. It had a very specific function in the past because it was the means to evangelize the natives and to appropriate to them the European vision of life.
"In Mexico, tradition is alive and comes before progress" according to Norma LAZCANO ARCE, a renowned Mexican ethnographer. It is one of the few countries where ancestral traditions are still lived in all their authenticity. By tradition, we mean not only the ritual that composes it, but also the devotion of Mexicans to perpetuate it.
The Folk Ballet of the University of Colima is part of this tradition. He has already participated in many tours around the world and dozens of international festivals of folklore, managing to accumulate numerous distinctions and recognitions for the dissemination of Mexican folklore. The ballet is extraordinary in its rhythm and talent. It was founded by Sr. Rafael ZAMARRIPA CASTAÑEDA, an immense choreographer who has left a lasting mark on Mexican folklore through his works.
