KRAKUS
Poland is a central European state bordering Germany to the west, the Czech Republic to the southwest, Slovakia to the south, Ukraine to the east-southeast and Belarus to the east-northeast, and finally the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad and Lithuania to the northeast. The Polish territory is dominated by the plain of northern Europe. The Carpathian and Sudeten Mountains in the south form a natural border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia, while the Baltic Sea forms a natural border in the north. To the west, the border with Germany is fixed on the rivers Oder and Nysa.
Polish traditions are rich, warm and deeply rooted in Catholic history and religion as well as ancient Slavic roots. Polish dances are national or popular dances that crystallized in Poland in the 17th century: polonez, krakowiak, mazur, kujawiak and oberek.
Founded in 1949 at the AGH University in Kraków, the Krakus Folk Ensemble is the oldest student folk ensemble in Poland. It brings to life authentic Polish folklore reinterpreted for the stage through lively songs, dynamic dances and colorful traditions from regions such as Kraków, Silesia, Rzeszów, Łowicz, Sądecczyzna region, Lublin, Kielce, Żywiec and the Beskid.
Each region of Poland has its own folklore, which is reflected in the "Krakus" show, illustrated by a specific colorful costume, songs and traditional dances. What is most striking for the viewer is the liveliness of the dancers, the picturesque costumes, the richness of the colors...
